Nordlys 1940-nm Laser Reverses DNA Methylation Tied to Skin Aging

Nordlys 1940-nm Laser Reverses DNA Methylation Tied to Skin Aging

Non-Ablative 1940-nm Fractional Laser Reverses Epigenetic Signatures of Skin Aging

A split-face study of 22 adults showed that Candela's Nordlys 1940-nm non-ablative fractional laser reversed age-associated DNA methylation at 83.9 percent of responsive CpG sites, providing molecular proof for the clinical remodeling we see in office. This gives us hard biological data to share with patients seeking evidence-backed longevity treatments. In the study, published in July 2026, participants received three laser treatments at one-month intervals. Genomic profiling of 3.8 million CpG sites per sample showed that the treatment modulated specific genes tied to skin health and keratinocyte differentiation, including FGFR3, HOXB4, and UBE2I. While VISIA imaging demonstrated a median 38 percent reduction in brown spots at one month, the epigenetic changes actually persisted and continued to evolve over a six-month follow-up period. Although investigators caution that this is not proof of skin cancer prevention, it confirms that cosmetic resurfacing is anchored in lasting cellular-level reversal of aging signatures. You can use these molecular findings to position fractional treatments as tools for long-term epigenetic health rather than simple pigment-correctors.
