New York Extends Independent Practice Authority for Qualified Nurse Practitioners Through 2030
New York has extended independent practice authority for qualified nurse practitioners through July 1, 2030, allowing established clinics to maintain their current staffing and supervisory structures without abrupt operational shifts. The extension preserves the regulatory framework originally established in 2022, which was previously set to expire on July 1, 2026. Under these rules, nurse practitioners who have completed at least 3,600 hours of qualifying practice can continue to practice, prescribe, and operate clinics without a written collaborative agreement or protocol with a physician.
