Synthetic MAP wound matrix accelerates post-Mohs healing and reduces scarring
A randomized clinical trial published online on August 11, 2026, in Dermatologic Surgery shows that a flowable, synthetic, microporous annealed particle (MAP) wound matrix significantly accelerates healing and improves cosmetic scarring compared to standard dressings after Mohs surgery. The multicenter study, registered as ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06600152, evaluated 40 randomized patients, with 26 receiving the flowable MAP matrix and 14 receiving a standard control hydrocolloid dressing immediately after Mohs surgery. Patients treated with the MAP wound matrix reached a Wound Bed Score of 12 or greater 14 days faster than those in the control group. Furthermore, at the six-month evaluation period, patients in the matrix group demonstrated significantly improved scarring scores compared to the control group (p = .0027). The primary safety endpoint was met, confirming that the synthetic matrix did not delay healing.
