Daewoong secures US patent for anti-aging mRNA skin regeneration technology

A new lipid nanoparticle platform targets human skin fibroblasts to reverse cellular aging.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical secured a U.S. patent allowance on August 27, 2026, for the ionizable lipid technology used in its eTurna messenger RNA delivery platform, signaling a shift toward intracellular genetic therapy in aesthetic medicine. The patented technology uses lipid nanoparticles to encapsulate and deliver mRNA strands directly into targeted cells. For medical-aesthetic clinics, this means the eventual introduction of therapies designed to reprogram skin at a cellular level rather than just treating superficial volume loss or surface laxity. In May, Daewoong acquired the intellectual property for its Epigenetic Reprogramming of Aging platform, which uses this mRNA vehicle to deliver reprogramming factors to aged cells. According to the patent specification, delivering these lipid nanoparticles to human skin fibroblasts and aged tissue promoted skin regeneration and reduced indicators associated with aging. While clinical trials are the next step, this positioning suggests that mRNA therapeutics may eventually compete with traditional biostimulators.
