Needle-free jet injectors reduce local anesthesia pain in dermatologic procedures

A prospective split-body study published on July 24, 2026, by the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research shows that needle-free jet injectors significantly reduce pain during local anesthesia administration compared to conventional hypodermic needles. For medical-aesthetic practices, this offers a validated method to address needle anxiety, which is estimated to affect 20% to 30% of young adults. Over a one-year period, researchers evaluated 35 adult patients undergoing minor dermatologic procedures on symmetrical lesions. The mean pain score during anesthesia delivery was 2.20 with the jet injector, compared to 5.48 with conventional needle infiltration (p < .001). Importantly, the subsequent anesthetic efficacy was comparable between both methods, meaning patient comfort during the actual procedure remained high. Utilizing a needle-free jet injector for local block delivery is a practical clinical step to ease patient apprehension during initial injections without compromising the depth or duration of the anesthesia itself.
