L&C Bio Plans Fat-Derived Skin Booster for GLP-1 Facial Volume Loss

South Korean biotech company L&C Bio is planning a late 2027 launch for MegaAdipoECM, an injectable skin booster made from donated human fat designed to address facial volume loss from GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic. The treatment processes donated adipose tissue into an extracellular matrix scaffold. Once injected, this matrix allows the patient's own fat cells to repopulate the area and naturally rebuild volume, offering an alternative to traditional synthetic fillers or autologous fat grafting.

Commercialization of the technology was previously stalled because South Korean law classified donated fat as medical waste. However, after lawmakers legalized the recycling of donated fat in 2026, the company moved forward with its domestic launch plans rather than outsourcing manufacturing to the United States or Singapore. L&C Bio holds patents for this technology in South Korea, the United States, and China, positioning it to compete in a global dermal filler market projected by Precedence Research to exceed 17 billion dollars by 2035. For clinics, this introduces an off-the-shelf, biologically active volume restorer similar to AbbVie's Renuva, targeting the rapidly growing demographic of post-GLP-1 patients seeking natural-looking facial reconstruction.
